Specialists examined 1,513 samples of atmospheric air

In the air of Kyiv during the week from January 16 to 21, 2023, an excess of the average daily maximum permissible concentration of nitrogen dioxide by 3 times was found.

Compared to the previous week, the level of nitrogen dioxide pollution decreased, and sulfur dioxide and formaldehyde increased, according to the weekly report on air pollution from the Borys Sreznevsky Central Geophysical Observatory.

According to the data of the observatory, the exceeding of the maximum permissible concentration (MPC) in terms of the average daily content of nitrogen dioxide was:

  • in 1.8-3.0 times – on Demiivska, Bessarabska and Peremoha squares, Obolonsky prospect, Lesya Ukrainka boulevard, in the Hydropark area, Akademik Strazheska, Oleksandr Dovzhenka, Hetman Pavlo Polubotka, Inzhener Borodin, Kaunaska and Semyon Sklyarenko streets;
  • no excesses were observed at 37 Nauky Ave. (in the area of the meteorological station).

Exceeding the MPC by average daily content of sulfur dioxide:

  • 1.9-2.7 times – on Demiivska, Bessarabska and Peremoha squares, Obolonsky prospect, Lesya Ukrainka boulevard, in the Hydropark area, Akademik Strazheska, Oleksandr Dovzhenko, Hetman Pavlo Polubotko, Inzhener Borodin, Kaunaska and Semyon Sklyarenko streets;
  • no excesses were observed at 37 Nauky Ave. (in the area of the meteorological station).

Exceeding the MPC by average daily formaldehyde content:

  • in 1.0-2.2 times – on Demiivska, Bessarabska and Peremoha squares, Obolonskyi and Nauka avenues, Lesya Ukrainka boulevard, in the Hydropark area, Akademika Strazheska, Dovzhenka, Hetman Pavla Polubotka, Kaunaska and Sklyarenko streets.

Specialists of the observatory selected and analyzed 1513 atmospheric air samples from 15 stationary stations.

As EcoPolitic reported previously, the analysis of data from the available atmospheric air monitoring points showed that in 2022, 88% of the time, i.e. about 10.5 months, the total air quality index in Kyiv was low and very low.
