The rating was based on 5 indicators

The United Nations Conference on Trade and Development (UNCTAD) has published a rating of 166 countries regarding their readiness for a green transition.

The rating was led by the USA, Sweden, Singapore, Switzerland and the Netherlands, and Ukraine, in terms of the level of use, adoption and adaptation of green technologies, took 58th place, losing 5 positions, reports The World Economic Forum.

It is noted that the rating was compiled on the basis of such indicators as:

  • information and communication technologies;
  • skills;
  • industry;
  • research and development;
  • finances.

Guinea, the Democratic Republic of the Congo, Gambia, Guinea-Bissau and South Sudan made it to the last five countries. After all, each of these countries ranks last in all five categories.

"There is a clear gap between high-income countries and low-income countries," the article emphasized.

The authors emphasized that the countries of Latin America, the Caribbean and sub-Saharan Africa are the least ready to use advanced technologies. This means that they are most at risk of losing current technological capabilities.

It is noted that China, despite its ability to produce and implement advanced technologies, ranked 35th, lower than expected. This is due to significant differences between urban and rural areas in internet coverage and broadband speeds.

The article added that in the rating, Brazil took 40th place, India 46th, and South Africa 56th.

As EcoPolitic previously reported, in December 2021, Ukraine took 21st place in the rating of investment potential of developing countries, and 48th in the world in terms of energy transition.
