Early tests at Google's data centers increase wind energy by 20%

French wind power company Engie SA will use Google's experimental technology with artificial intelligence (AI) to increase the efficiency and power of its power plants.

If the technology succeeds, it will be scaled across Europe, said Bloomberg

Google sells the service through its cloud unit, which is trying attract customers with tools to manage energy consumption and reduce emissions. The technology helps to predict the nature of the wind in advance.

In 2019, Google began working with DeepMind, a subsidiary of Alphabet Inc., to develop software for AI that can predict wind energy output thirty-six hours in advance. This would allow energy suppliers to plan their work in advance with greater precision and counteract some of the unpredictability of wind generation.

According to Google, early tests at Google's data centers have increased the value of wind power by 20%.

Larry Cochrane, director of global cloud solutions at Google Cloud, explained that such an AI offers forecasts for utility consumers that can improve the conditions of buying and selling in the energy markets.

"The best way to think of this is as a tool for trade recommendations," he said.

Cochrane also added that the company may soon offer similar forecasting services to other renewable energy markets, such as solar and storage.

Engie plans to more than double production of electricity from renewable sources up to 80 gigawatts by 2030, despite the recent rise in prices for solar panels and wind turbines.

We will remind, Google and Swedish startup Normative are developing CO2 emission tracker.

As EcoPoliticа reported earlier, in 2021 it is established record wind power turbines.
