The area is obtained by modeling the emission distribution in one of the scenarios of a severe accident with damage to the reactor core of one of the power units

In the event of a hypothetical accident at the Zaporizhzhya nuclear power plant, which was seized by the russian occupying forces, the nuclear cloud would move towards the russian border.

Such calculations were made public by experts of the State Atomic Energy Regulatory Commission. It is noted that the calculations were made by specialists of the National Research Center of Nuclear Power and DSA (Norway). The model predicts the distribution and trajectories of the movement of air masses from the industrial site of the Zaporizhzhya NPP during the next 9 hours.

As indicated, the direction of cloud propagation is southeast (toward the border of russia) up to a distance of 1,100 km from the site of the ZANP.

"This area is obtained by modeling the spread of the release in one of the scenarios of a severe accident with damage to the reactor core of one of the power units due to the loss of fuel cooling and release due to containment leaks. The calculations were carried out using the European decision support systems JRODOS and ARGOS (for DSA Norway calculations), based on the meteorological forecast database for the next 3 days. Meteorology is based on NWP Data GFS 0.50 0000Z March 04, 2022," the message said.

As reported EcoPolitics, on the night of March 4 russian troops shelled the largest nuclear power plant in Europe – Zaporizhzhya NPP in the city of Energodar. The occupiers hit the first power unit of the NPP, as a result of which a fire started.

According to the consequences the explosion may exceed all previous accidents at the nuclear power plant.

President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyi did an urgent appeal to the leaders of European countries and the world . He emphasized that russian tanks equipped with thermal imaging cameras are purposefully firing at nuclear power units.
