The plant plans to install auxiliary equipment to process up to 20-22 tons of garbage per hour

In Zhytomyr, a waste recycling plant processes up to 15 tons of garbage every hour, from which raw materials are selected for recycling, and also produces biofuel for Kamianets-Podilskyi, Ivano-Frankivsk, and Zdolbuniv cement plants.

The cost of such an alternative to coal and gas reaches 4-4.3 thousand hryvnias per ton, depending on logistics and VAT, according to Suspilne.

It is noted that the waste recycling plant in Zhytomyr was the first in Ukraine to be built for the money of a private investor. The cost of the plant reached 12 million euros. It was supposed to be launched in February-March 2022, but due to the full-scale invasion, the plant was opened only in February 2023.

"The plant is still operating in test mode. During 2023, we were engaged in commissioning and product certification. Such an enterprise as the one in Zhytomyr has no analogues in Ukraine at the moment," said Yevhen Barakh, managing partner of MS Social Project LLC.

He emphasized that the products had no State Standards of Ukraine (DSTU), no certificates of conformity, and no proper conclusions from environmental, sanitary, or epidemiological services. That's why the company had to make everything from scratch.

The article says that the plant plans to expand its production capacity and install plastic and wood recycling lines by the end of the year.

"The sorting line sorts 10 types of high-quality recyclables for further processing. We separate PET bottles of three types (three colors), sort glass cullet of three colors, high-pressure and stretch films, aluminum cans, and plastic of two types: mixed and pure polypropylene," said Yuriy Panasyuk, the company's technologist.

According to the workers, the waste processing plant sometimes receives dead cats and dogs, as well as the remains of pig carcasses. They are sent for utilization, i.e. burned.

It is noted that the company currently employs 30 people who select raw materials suitable for recycling, as well as stones and other garbage that cannot be processed by the equipment.

According to Pavlo Furman, the company's chief engineer, there is currently only one technological line of joint Croatian-Ukrainian production for waste processing.

"We are planning to install more auxiliary lines, we are planning to modernize the enterprise. Because the production capacity of the Croatian lines we have now is not enough to process all the garbage in Zhytomyr. We will continue to improve. Over the next two months, we will supply auxiliary equipment, and then we will be able to process up to 20-22 tons per hour," said Furman.

Earlier, Ecopolitic wrote, that in February 2023, the first stage of a waste processing plant was launched in Zhytomyr, where the depth of processing currently reaches 40-45%.

As EcoPolitic previously reported, Ukrvtorresurs-Bukovyny launched a waste sorting line at the Chernivtsi landfill, which had not been used for several years. Almost 30% of the community's solid waste will be taken by the Kamianets-Podilskyi cement plant for alternative fuel.
