Activists cleaned a kilometer of coastline 30 meters wide

In Zaporizhzhia, eco-activists cleared the washed-up coastline of the Dnieper River on the island of Khortytsi from 8 cubic meters of garbage, including tires, plastic, tin and glass bottles, construction and household waste.

In the eco-action "Let's save the Dnipro together!" about 100 people took part, reports ZPRZ.CITY.

It is noted that the action was organized by the public organization "Green Center Metinvest Zaporizhia" together with the national reserve "Khortytsia" and the NGO "Zaporizhia. Platform for Joint Actions". Eco-initiative "Let's save the Dnipro together!" started in 2012.

The material said that during the campaign special attention was paid to security. After all, people find explosive objects on the newly formed coastlines. Employees of "Khortytsia" also carefully examined the shores in order not to miss valuable historical artifacts.

Activists cleaned the coastline about one kilometer long and 30 meters wide.

The material added that during the 12 years of the initiative's existence, it was possible to:

  • plant about 1,800 trees;
  • collect more than 185 tons of garbage;
  • to release 190,000 fish individuals into the Dnipro;
  • establish 8,600 spawning areas, 30 nests on water, and 30 bird feeders;
  • attract about 10,000 people to the actions.

As EcoPolitic reported before, due to the undermining of the Kakhovskaya HPP in Zaporizhzhia catastrophically the Dnipro river has run dry. Sand islands can already be seen near the Dnipro HPP, and the river is littered with dead fish. Due to the lowering of the water level, the shores are exposed and previously submerged objects and artifacts become accessible.
