1,484 air samples were analyzed at the observatory

In the air of Kyiv during the week with October 9 to 14 an excess of the average daily maximum permissible concentrations of nitrogen dioxide and formaldehyde by 2.3 times was found.

Compared to the previous week, the content of nitrogen dioxide has decreased, says the weekly report on air pollution from the Borys Sreznevsky Central Geophysical Observatory.

According to the observatory, the exceedance of the maximum permissible concentration (MPC) for the average daily content of nitrogen dioxide was:

  • by 1.6-2.3 times – on Demiivska and Bessarabska squares, Beresteyski and Obolonski avenues, Lesya Ukrainka boulevard, in the Hydropark area, Akademik Strazheska, Oleksandr Dovzhenko, Hetman Pavlo Polubotka, Inzhener Borodin, Kaunaska and Semyon Sklyarenko streets;
  • no excesses were observed at 37 Nauky Ave. (in the area of the meteorological station).

Exceeding the MPC by average daily content of sulfur dioxide:

  • in 1.3-1.8 times – on Demiivska and Bessarabska squares, Beresteyski and Obolonski avenues, Lesya Ukrainka boulevard, in the Hydropark area, Akademik Strazheska, Oleksandr Dovzhenko, Hetman Pavlo Polubotka, Inzhener Borodin, Kaunaska and Semyon Sklyarenko streets;
  • no excesses were observed at 37 Nauky Ave. (in the area of the meteorological station).

Exceeding the MPC by average daily formaldehyde content:

  • by 1.5-2.3 times – on Demiivska and Bessarabska squares, Beresteyski and Obolonski avenues, Lesya Ukrainka boulevard, in the Hydropark district, Akademik Strazheska, Oleksandr Dovzhenka, Hetman Pavlo Polubotka, Kaunaska and Semen Sklyarenko streets;
  • 1.2 times – in the area of Nauka Avenue ( October 14) .

Exceeding the MPC by average daily content carbon monoxide :

  • 2.3 times – on Mezhihirska Street (October 13).

Specialists of the observatory selected and analyzed 1484 atmospheric air samples from 16 stationary posts.

As EcoPolitic previously reported, Kyiv entered the TOP-5 cities with the most polluted air in the first half of 2023.
