The spring tree planting campaign is coming to an end in Lviv region as part of the President of Ukraine's 2021 Green Country environmental initiative. Over the period from March to April 2024, more than 5.3 million new tree seedlings were planted on an area of 718 hectares.
This was reported by the Department of Ecology and Natural Resources of the Lviv Regional State Administration on Facebook.
Local governments have also joined the planting of trees and landscaping of community territories in the Lviv region.
"Planting trees is not only about caring for the environment, it is an opportunity to be an example for others, it is joint work that unites us to achieve a common goal. I call on the public to participate more actively in measures to green the territories. This way, everyone will be able to contribute to the preservation of nature and to confirm our deep responsibility to the next generations for the protection of the environment," said Oksana Viytyk, Acting Director of the Department of Ecology and Natural Resources of the Lviv Regional State Administration.
It is noted that the "Green Country" initiative envisages planting 1 billion trees in 3 years and increasing the area of forests by 1 million hectares in 10 years.
As EcoPolitic previously reported, in Khmelnytskyi, Bukovyna and Ternopil regions, the State Enterprise "Forests of Ukraine" planted about 5.8 million seedlings, covering an area of almost a thousand hectares. Of these, 55.2 hectares are new forests.
