The period of protective action of the coating should be at least 3 months

In Kryvyi Rih, new technologies for dust suppression using binders will be tested at the tailings storage facility of Northern Mining, which belongs to the Metinvest group.

For three months, scientists will observe the results on the treated surfaces, reports the Department of Ecology of the Executive Committee of the Kryvyi Rih City Council on Facebook.

It is noted that the project is part of the city's environmental program, which is being implemented together with specialists of the State Production and Consumer Service and the Mining and Research Institute of the Kryvyi Rih National University.

The message explained that the humate reagent, which was the most effective development of scientists, will be tested at the tailings storage facility. The period of protective action of the coating should be at least 3 months.

Scientists will conduct periodic monitoring of the treated surfaces for compliance of the integrity of the protective layer with the specified physical properties, namely:

  • stability;
  • strength;
  • thickness;
  • structures;
  • water absorption

Earlier, EcoPolitic wrote, that 10 hectares of rye were planted in Kryvyi Rih on the tailings of the Northern Mining and Processing Plant (GZK). A plant barrier will help reduce the amount of dust, because the roots and stems of plants fix the dry surface.

As EcoPolitic previously reported, in Kryvyi Rih in June average monthly concentrations of dust, dioxide and nitrogen oxide decreased by 50%, compared to the same period in 2022.
