In Kyiv on the Left Bank on the morning of Monday, March 20, the concentration of suspended particles (dust) PM2.5 in the air increased to 81 and PM10 to 72, as well as on the Right Bank in the area of the Grishko National Botanical Garden (PM2.5 – 74 and PM10 – 78).
The press service of the KMDA cited meteorological conditions, which contribute to the accumulation and retention of harmful impurities in the surface layer of the air, as the probable reason for the worsening of the air condition.
The press service urged citizens not to ventilate the premises and avoid physical activity on the street until the situation normalizes.
The message explained that the Common Air Quality Index (CAQI) is formed automatically based on the indicators of several main pollutants: PM2.5 and PM10 (dust particles), SO2 (sulfur dioxide), NO2 (nitrogen dioxide), O3 ( surface ozone), CO (carbon monoxide). The lower the CAQI, the better the air quality.
In most areas of the city, air monitoring points in the "Kyiv Digital" application recorded a yellow, i.e. average, level of overall CAQI quality from 51 to 75.
It is noted that the radiation background in the entire city reaches 0.11 μSv/h, while the norm is 0.26 μSv/h.
Earlier, EcoPolitic wrote, that Kyiv took 26th place in the ranking of 30 major cities in the world with the best air quality indicators, according to the World Air Quality Report (IQAir).
As EcoPolitic previously reported, a study by scientists from Monash University, Australia, showed that more than 99.9% of people on the planet breathe air with an excessive content of PM 2.5 solid particles.
