The Ministry of Environment presented the projects of the DSTU on water quality monitoring according to EU standards

This is one of the steps to create an effective state environmental control system

The Ministry of Environmental Protection and Natural Resources of Ukraine developed and published the first 18 national standards to ensure surface water quality control according to European standards.

The agency informed about this on its website.

The development of new state standards (DSTU) took place within the framework of the project "Environmental monitoring of the consequences of war and recovery strategy".

The Ministry of Environment reminded that at the beginning of 2024, the national standards that did not meet international and European norms were canceled in Ukraine. Some of them were replaced by European standards in the original language (English, French) without taking into account national conditions of application.

But since the need for effective control of water quality has not disappeared, the national standards have been reinstated during the implementation of European standards – until May 1, 2025.

The ministry also said that integration with the EU in the field of surface water quality monitoring requires approval of more than 600 standards and modernization of laboratory equipment.

The list of DSTU projects (prDSTU), which were developed by the ministry in the first edition, looks as follows:

  1. PrDSTU EN ISO 5667-1:20XX Water quality. Sampling of samples. Part 1. Guidelines for the development of sampling programs and methods (EN ISO 5667-1:2022, IDT; ISO 5667-1:2020, IDT)

At the beginning of September, EcoPolitic reported that Ukraine implemented European Commission Directive 2009/90/EU on water monitoring. We also informed that, according to scientists, for the first time in history it is global the water circulation system is out out of balance
