It will determine the value of certificates for goods imported during this period

The cost of embedded carbon emissions per metric tonne under the Carbon Border Adjustment Mechanism (CBAM) for the second quarter of 2026 stands at €75.28. As promised, the European Commission calculated this figure during the first week following the end of the relevant quarter.

This was revealed in updates on the European Commission’s website dated 6 July 2026.

Compared with the first quarter of CARM’s implementation, the price has fallen slightly. In the previous period, it stood at €75.36. The price of CARM certificates corresponds to the average price within the European Union Emissions Trading System (EU ETS). In this way, the EU authorities are seeking to balance the carbon costs borne by domestic producers with the charges paid by importers.

The set price will form the basis for calculating the cost of SWAM certificates. The price will be applied when selling them in relation to goods imported into the European Union during the relevant quarter.

The sale of allowances on the common central platform will begin in February 2027.

Carbon prices for the third and fourth quarters of 2026 will be announced on 5 October 2026 and 4 January 2027 respectively.

EcoPolitic reported that the relevant committee of the European Parliament adopted a number of stricter amendments to CBAM. In particular, if they are approved at the European Parliament’s session in September, the mechanism will be extended to a range of processed products containing aluminum and steel.
