How many specialists in extracurricular specialties are trained by Ukrainian higher education institutions every year

The Ministry of Education and Science of Ukraine has published statistics for 2022-2023 on the number of students who received bachelor's and master's degrees in the specialties 101 "Ecology" and 183 "Environmental Protection Technologies".

This was reported by the Office of Sustainable Solutions.

"The number of future specialists who (dont-) know environmental protection technologies, understand the fundamental requirements of modern environmental protection activities, (dont-) know what challenges they will have to overcome when they get to a real enterprise or organization deserves special attention. Take a look at these the numbers given to us by the Ministry of Education and Culture in 2024..." – says PAEW President Lyudmila Tsyganok

According to the data published by the Ministry of Education and Science of Ukraine, in 2022, almost 6.9 thousand people earned a bachelor's degree in "Ecology" and almost 2.7 thousand studied for a master's degree.

In the same year, only 7 people obtained a bachelor's degree in the field of Environmental Protection Technologies, and 3 – a master's degree.

In 2023, more than 6.6 thousand people studied for a bachelor's degree in ecology, and more than 3.1 thousand received a master's degree in this field.

But this year saw significant growth in the field of Environmental Protection Technologies. 87 people have obtained a bachelor's degree, and 116 already have a master's degree.

"How to overcome the gap that has been observed for years and what should be the actions of the state so that green reconstruction does not become a farce? In order to identify key problems and provide proposals for the future in the training of specialists, we, together with the PAEW Association and UNDP in Ukraine, are conducting poll 5 categories of interaction participants," says Tsyganok.

As EcoPolitic previously reported, in 2022, Ukraine launched a Remote Climate School for students of grades 3-5 and their teachers. The purpose of the course is to involve children and adults in preserving the planet and the environment through daily balanced everyday actions.
