The Regional Gas Company (RGC) issued technical conditions for the connection of the biomethane plant of Hals Agro in the Chernihiv Region and ordered the production of gas equipment for it at one of the RGC Production plants.

The first stage of construction will be completed in 2022, and its capacity will reach 330 cubic meters of biomethane per hour, reports RGK.

Hals Agro is the first biomethane plant in Ukraine to be connected to the network.

Chernihivgaz JSC, operating under the RGK brand, has issued technical conditions for connection. Specialists have developed three options for connecting the biomethane plant, differing in cost and terms of work. The customer chose the optimal one.

The first stage of construction of gas networks involves the construction of an 800-meter-long gas pipeline. This will allow Hals Agro to transfer 330 cubic meters to gas distribution networks. m of biomethane per hour in winter.

It is assumed that the connection will take place by the end of 2022 and the plant will be able to start producing biomethane already this winter.

"We are ready to scale up this experience in all regions of RGC presence. Our company possesses the technical expertise and has access to the technologies of the major gas equipment manufacturers, as well as the experience of the European DSOs who have been working with biomethane for many years, said Ihor Gotsyk, Head, Decarbonization Department, RGC. – We guarantee fast delivery of the project, safety and stability of gas supply."

The Hals Agro company plans to further increase biomethane production to 1,100 cubic meters. m per hour. This will require the encirclement of the area of operation of two adjacent gas distribution stations and the construction of about 8 km of gas pipeline.

In this way, the biomethane plant will gain access to a larger number of consumers and will transfer biomethane to the network at once through two power stations. The works are planned to be completed by the beginning of the heating season of 2023/24.

The design capacity of the installed equipment for cleaning biogas to biomethane is about 3 million cubic meters. m per year. This volume can provide heating and cooking for 1,500 families. That is, settlements near the plant will have an independent source of energy at the local level.

The gas regulation equipment and the gas metering unit, which are necessary for connection to the network, are manufactured at one of the modern plants of RGC Production. At the same time, nodes and components from leading manufacturers Pietro Fiorentini and Emerson will be used.

The article emphasized that gas distribution networks are the most acceptable and promising for the connection of biomethane plants. They are the most widespread on the territory of Ukraine and have comparable system pressure with biomethane producers, which does not require the installation of additional equipment.

Biomethane has the potential to become the third full-fledged source of gas in Ukraine after its own production and import.

"DSOs operating under the RGC brand have simplified to maximum the connection of biomethane plants to gas distribution networks and offer this service for 1 hryvnia. Biomethane producers shall only finance the construction of external and internal gas networks and the purchase of equipment," writes RGK.

Earlier, EcoPolitic wrote, that for the first time in Ukraine, the Hals Agro biomethane production plant in Chernihiv region joined gas distribution networks RGK

As EcoPolitic previously reported, on August 2, the National commission for state regulation in the spheres of energy and utilities adopted a resolution about amendments to the Code of the gas transport system and the Code of gas distribution systems, which will allow to supply biomethane in the network.
