"Teofipol Energy Company" has made its first delivery of biomethane to the European Union. The first consignment of gas totalled around 45,000 cubic metres and was exported to Hungary.
This was reported by the Bioenergy Association of Ukraine.
The company became the fifth Ukrainian biomethane producer to begin exporting this gas abroad. The export took place in August 2026 via the Ukrainian gas transmission system. The Hungarian company ERU Europe was the buyer of the Ukrainian biomethane.
The Teofipol Energy Company plans to increase its export volumes. As early as September, it plans to increase its export volumes more than fourfold, to at least 200,000 cubic metres.
As noted by ExPro, market participants estimate that 1 cubic metre of biomethane could cost around $1,000.
"Teofipol Energy Company" owns Ukraine’s largest biomethane plant. It was commissioned in early 2026 in the Khmelnytskyi region. The facility has a design capacity of around 56 million cubic metres of biomethane per year. The plant is connected directly to the Ukrainian gas transmission system.
As a reminder, Ukraine began exporting biomethane to Europe in early 2025. The VITAGRO group of companies was the first to do so. The first trial shipment, totalling 68 cubic metres, was sent to Germany.
In total, 11.2 million cubic metres of biomethane were exported abroad in 2025. Apart from VITAGRO, the MHP holding company, the ‘Gals Agro’ agricultural holding and YM Liquid Gas also supplied their products. The latter company sold only liquefied biomethane.
According to experts’ forecasts, biomethane in Ukraine could completely replace natural gas, but for this to happen, the sector requires at least €40 billion in investment.
For its part, Germany announced plans to import Ukrainian biomethane for heating.
