The prosecutor's office is also working on collecting money from the violators for cutting down trees

Since the beginning of 2023, the Mukachevo District Prosecutor's Office in Transcarpathia has referred 3 indictments regarding illegal logging to the court.

The total amount of damages from such illegal activity reached 86 thousand hryvnias, the press service of the Transcarpathian Regional Prosecutor's Office reports.

It is noted that in one of the cases there is already a court decision.

The press service said that in the fall of 2022, a resident of the Mukachevo district was caught transporting illegally cut wood. The man even had fake waybills. The court fined him 17 thousand hryvnias.

The authors emphasized that the law enforcement officers also exposed another resident of Mukachevo region in the fall of 2022. He cut down hornbeams on the territory of the Nizhnevoritsky forestry. The court will make the final decision on his punishment.

"Illegal felling was discovered in December 2022 in another forest massif on the territory of Mukachiv region. A local resident felled trees without having any permits for this. He was discovered by a forester at the scene. At the same time, the accused partially compensated for the damage by returning the illegally cut wood," they said.

The message added that the Mukachevo District Prosecutor's Office is also working on collecting money from violators, determined as the amount of damages for illegal felling. The Mukachevo City and District Court opened proceedings on one of these lawsuits and scheduled the case for consideration. In it, the prosecutor insists on collecting 73,000 hryvnias from the citizen.

It is noted that the man cut down more than a dozen trees on the territory of the Mukachevo forest farm. Already a month after the discovered fact, the man received a sentence. He is serving a sentence with a one-year probationary period. But in addition to this, the prosecutor's office insists on mandatory compensation for the damage caused to the local budget of the Velykoluchka community.

Earlier, EcoPolitic wrote, that the Transcarpathian Regional Prosecutor's Office sent an indictment to the court regarding the compensation of UAH 5,440.122 thousand in damages to the Transcarpathian Forestry and Hunting Administration and the Velykobereznyan Forest Farm for the illegal felling of 367 trees.

As EcoPolitic previously reported, law enforcement officers in the village of Ust Chorna, Tyachiv District, Transcarpathia a truck with illegally cut wood was detained, which will be transferred to the needs of the Armed Forces of Ukraine.
