Connection to gas distribution networks reduces the costs of customers for the installation of additional equipment

In Ukraine gas distribution companies operating under the RGC brand, for 1 hryvnia, will provide services for the preparation of technical specifications, project approval and physical connection of biomethane producers to gas distribution networks

Manufacturers must finance the construction of external and internal gas networks and equipment, reports RGC.

Ukraine is on the verge of creating and launching its own biomethane market. The relevant law was adopted at the end of 2021, and the first projects for the production of biomethane and its injection into gas networks are already appearing.

The material noted that gas distribution networks are the most suitable and promising for connecting biomethane plants, because they are the most branched across the territory of Ukraine and have comparable system operation pressure with biomethane producers, which does not require the installation of additional equipment.

“This is our constant offer and the contribution of the gas distribution industry to the development of the country’s energy independence,” said Sergey Bondar, technical director of RGC. “We have simplified the connection of biomethane plants to gas distribution networks as much as possible. Typical technical requirements for connections are published on the websites of gas distribution companies.”

GDM operators are preparing to accept the first volumes of biomethane, having the technical expertise to ensure the stable operation of the gas network, given today's challenges. The biomethane registry is still being developed and the Technical Regulations for natural gas with quality requirements are to be approved.

There are many agricultural enterprises in Ukraine that have the potential to produce biomethane. Thus, according to the GTS Operator, there are 26 companies considering the integration of their own production facilities into gas networks. The most promising for them are gas distribution networks, as this reduces the cost of customers for the installation of additional equipment.

Countries with agricultural potential comparable to Ukraine have already integrated hundreds of biomethane plants into gas distribution networks. So in France there are more than 300 biomethane plants, in the UK - 120, and Germany has a production of about 1 billion m3 of biomethane per year.

For advice on the possibility of connection, a manufacturer or investor can contact biomethane@rgc.ua.

As reported EcoPolitics before, Ukraine produces 230 million m3 of biogas per year, and maybe 30 times more.
