Members of the environmental community assessed the concept of reforming state environmental control set out in the draft Cabinet of Ministers' order, with some criticizing that the Strategy's operational plan does not outline clear mechanisms for achieving its ambitious goals.
In discussing the Facebook post of the Ministry of Environmental Protection and Natural Resources, users were divided into two camps, one supporting the proposed reform and the other predicting failure.
The Ministry of Environment published the key reasons for the urgent need to reform state environmental control and the concept of the future European State Environmental Inspectorate.
"Do you agree that changes in the environmental control system are needed?" the press service asked the environmental community.
"Of course we need [reforms], especially in environmental inspections that don't work at all," wrote environmental activist Artem Prykhodko.

Members of the environmental community support the need to reform the state environmental control system. However, opponents have expressed concern that the reform will not have a positive effect despite the enormous budgetary expenditures.
"It's better not to reform anything," Hanna Hushchyna wrote, noting that the large-scale waste reform did not bring the expected results. "The ministry does nothing good at all. Be it waste, water, control, whatever you want to call it."
The users also criticized the manipulative provision on providing jobs to veterans at the State Environmental Inspectorate.
"A veteran does not automatically mean an angel. Therefore, the selection process should be strict. And veteran status as an advantage should be granted only if all other indicators are equal," Oleh Lystopad wrote.
"This is a typical projection of the Ministry of Environmental Protection about veterans," commented former Deputy Minister of Environmental Protection Mykhailo Khorev.
He also drew attention to the support of the strategy by a number of regional departments of the State Environmental Inspectorate and suggested that they were forced to do so by the Ministry of Environment.
"This is not the first time that the Ministry of Ecology has tried to use administrative resources instead of quality communication. We saw this when you were tormenting your subordinate parks. Friends, it doesn't work that way. The one who wrote the strategy and believes in it should communicate. Otherwise, it's just a set of copycat slogans," he wrote.
As you know, in April 2023, environmental activists from the Ukrainian Nature Protection Group criticized the Minister of Environmental Protection and Natural Resources Ruslan Strilets for allegedly putting pressure on the directors of national parks and reserves. According to the environmental activists, they wrote "paid" comments in support of the scandalous draft law No. 9136 "On Improving the Management of the Natural Reserve Fund of Ukraine."
Earlier, EcoPolitic wrote, that Minister of Environmental Protection and Natural Resources Ruslan Strilets said that the reform of the State Environmental Inspectorate is one of the priorities for 2024.
As EcoPolitic previously reported, the State Environmental Inspectorate has developed a draft order of the Cabinet of Ministers on the Strategy for Reforming the State Environmental Control System and its Implementation Plan for 2024-2026 and announced the start of its public discussion.
