In Boryspil district of Kyiv region, "black loggers" cut down 348 trees in forest belts, causing damage worth 2.4 million hryvnias.
The police notified the offenders of suspicion, the Kyiv Region Police reported on Facebook.
It is noted that the loggers loaded the trees cut down near the irrigation canal into cars and took them in an unknown direction. Law enforcement officers learned about the violation thanks to an appeal from a concerned citizen.
The press service said that law enforcement officers had identified both suspects, who were residents of Sumy and Boryspil regions.
"According to the fact of illegal felling of trees in protective plantations, illegal transportation, committed by a group of persons based on a prior conspiracy, which caused serious consequences, under the procedural guidance of the Boryspil District Prosecutor's Office, the investigators informed the two perpetrators of suspicion (Part 4, Article 246 of the Criminal Procedure Code). They face up to 7 years of imprisonment," the message reads.
It is noted that one of the offenders has been declared wanted.
Earlier, EcoPolitic wrote, that in August, near the village of Velyki Hulyaki in Kyiv Oblast, forest protection workers detained a group of "black loggers" from Fastov during illegal felling of trees.
As EcoPolitic previously reported, in the forest near the town of Kotsyubynskyi, which belongs to Kyiv, the Bilichansky forest, which is part of the Holosiivskyi National Park, is being cut down en masse.
