Kosa has been fully occupied since June 2022

On the Kinburn spit, located in the Kherson and Mykolaiv regions, the occupiers completely burned about 8,000 hectares of protected land.

Oleksiy Vaskov, deputy mayor of Ochakov, Mykolayiv region, told about this, Hromadske radio reports.

He emphasized that there are about 12,000 hectares of nature reserves on the territory of the Mykolayiv region. These are the national nature park Biloberezhya Svyatoslav and the regional landscape park Kinburnska Kosa, which protected wild forests and steppes, as well as swamps.

Vaskov noted that currently about 7-8 thousand hectares of Kinburn land have been burned, but there is no exact figure.

"It's just burnt out there - there's nothing alive," he said.

Vaskov also added that he is currently under occupation about 100 local residents, who were mostly employees of nature reserves and forestry and hunting.

The territory of the spit has been fully occupied since June 2022, from which Russian troops shelled the city of Ochakiv and other settlements.

Earlier, EcoPolitic wrote, that eco-inspectors calculated 15.63 billion hryvnias of air damage due to fires on the territory of the Kinburn Peninsula.

As EcoPolitic reported earlier, ecologists analyzed satellite images areas affected by full-scale war to predict the future environmental impact and recovery, in particular Kinburn spit.
