The main principles of the new energy industry of Ukraine

Local clusters using local energy resources will contribute to the energy independence of communities

Ukraine's new energy sector must be formed on the basis of sustainability, decarbonization, energy security, compliance with the needs of economic development and the course of European integration.

This was discussed during the discussion "New energy of Ukraine: ensuring stability, recovery and sustainability of development", which was held by the Energy Club, the press service of the State Agency for Energy Efficiency and Energy Saving reports.

"At the general strategic and conceptual level, there is a certain consensus that Ukraine's new energy sector should be sustainable, decarbonized," said Valery Bezus, head of the State Energy Efficiency Agency.

He added that new energy should ensure the country's energy security and economic development.

The message emphasized that the development of the new energy industry should take into account Ukraine's international obligations, as well as the European integration course, and most importantly, it should correspond to the civilizational choice of Ukrainians.

Bezus emphasized that such energy should use the maximum possibilities of renewable energy sources, alternative fuels and use energy resources as efficiently as possible.

"Energy efficiency should cover all components and stages from extraction of energy resources, their production, generation, transportation, distribution to use," he said.

The message emphasized that the goals and objectives of the green transition can only be achieved with concrete steps. The preparation of the "foundation" for the new energy system must be started today, in particular, the development of relevant state programs. A proactive position must be taken in all matters, in particular regarding:

  • development of energy efficiency in all sectors;
  • technical regulation;
  • development of waste energy utilization, etc.

"One of our new ideas is to implement the desire of Ukrainians for energy independence, in particular within communities, thanks to such a tool as clustering. The creation of local, regional clusters using local energy resources for their economy will contribute to the formation of energy-independent communities," Bezus noted.

Gennadiy Ryabtsev, an energy expert and director of special projects at the Psyche National Research Center, also added that ensuring everyone's access to reliable, sustainable and modern sources of energy corresponds to goal 7 of the UN Agenda for Sustainable Development by 2030. For this, the following principles must be followed:

  • protection of national interests;
  • energy self-sufficiency;
  • diversification;
  • environmental acceptability;
  • economic efficiency.

Earlier, EcoPolitic wrote, that the Deputy Minister of Environmental Protection and Natural Resources Ruslan Grechanyk stated that the National Plan for the Restoration of Ukraine in the field of eco-security should be cross-sectoral and include principles of the European green course.

As EcoPolitic previously reported, Andriy Kobolev, ex-chairman of Naftogaz of Ukraine, together with his partners, founded the company ENEY for the implementation of investment projects in the field of decarbonized energy.
