They are designed to solve the problem of increased volumes of household waste arising due to the large flow of internal migrants into the region

In Transcarpathian region 5 waste processing enterprises will be built by the end of 2027 – in Uzhgorod, Mukachevo, Khust, Tyachiv-Rakhiv and Beregovo districts.

The Ministry of Environmental Protection and Natural Resources of Ukraine informed about the signing of the relevant memorandum of cooperation with the Transcarpathian Regional State Administration.

The investment cost of this project is more than 152 million euros. According to Ruslan Strelts, Minister of Environmental Protection and Natural Resources of Ukraine, the construction of one plant will actually cost as much as the creation of one landfill.

“However, our goal is to achieve European waste management standards, which means reducing the percentage of landfilling, and instead increasing the volume of waste processing,” he noted.

The authorities are currently negotiating with potential investors to create a new waste processing infrastructure in the region. The actual start of designing plants in Transcarpathia is scheduled for the end of June – beginning of July this year. The approximate start of launching enterprises is planned for the end of 2027.

The new sorting and processing plants will collectively create more than 600 jobs.

Previously, EcoPolitic talked about the fact that "a station for processing construction waste was opened in Bucha."
