The existing monitoring system does not provide a complete and objective picture of the state of atmospheric air in the region

The Volyn region plan to increase the number of stationary air monitoring points and expand the list of pollutants to be monitored.

This was stated by the head of the Ecocommission, Yuriy Royko, during the discussion in the working group on the implementation in 2023 of the State Monitoring Program in the field of atmospheric air protection, reports the Volyn Regional Council's press service.

Royko noted that currently there are only 4 stationary air monitoring stations in the region, 3 of which are located in Lutsk.

"This does not give a complete and objective picture of the state of the atmospheric air throughout the territory of Volyn, and therefore it is necessary to take care of the installation of additional stationary posts. It is also worth implementing measures to modernize them, that is, to automate the measurement of pollutants," he said.

Royko also emphasized the need to expand the list of pollutants subject to monitoring.

He emphasized that the State Monitoring Program in the field of atmospheric air protection was reviewed and analyzed at the meeting of the specialized deputy commission on February 23, 2022. The program has not lost its relevance and should be correlated with other environmental protection measures for 2023.

The message noted that members of the working group recommended taking these measures as part of the first stage of program implementation. The implementers of the program undertook to contact the municipalities of Lutsk, Kovel, Volodymyr and Novovolynsk, which are the most vulnerable to atmospheric air pollution, in order to determine the main measures and places for monitoring pollution sources.

Earlier, EcoPolitic wrote, that Oleksandr Starukh, head of the Zaporizhia Regional State Administration, said that emissions into the atmosphere cause great indignation among residents, therefore, it is necessary to speed up the resolution of this problem.

As EcoPolitic previously reported, official data from the city's air monitoring system was integrated in Kyiv to the international platform of the IQAir company.
