In the Rivne Region, the Court of Appeal decided to partially suspend the activities of Kolor S.I.M. LLC, located in the village of Klevan, until the air pollution is eliminated.
The enterprise worked without a special permit for emissions from 30 additional stationary sources that released a number of dangerous chemicals into the air, the State Environmental Inspection of Polissky District reported on Facebook.
Eco-inspectors recorded violations back in August 2020, thanks to the appeal of local residents. People have complained that the company's intermittent emissions have a strong solvent smell and cause mucous membrane irritation, sore throats, suffocation and general health problems.
Specialists of the State Inspectorate discovered a number of chemical substances, most of which are included in the List of the most common and dangerous pollutants, namely:
- iron and its compounds;
- manganese and its compounds;
- non-methane volatile organic compounds;
- xylene;
- toluene;
- ethyl acetate;
- acetone;
- butyl acetate;
- methyl acetate;
- styrene;
- acetic acid;
- nitrous oxide;
- suspended solids.
The head of the SEI of the Polissky District, Yevhenii Medvedovskyi, said that the department applied to the court to stop the company's activities until the violations are eliminated. However, in October 2022, the Rivne District Administrative Court rejected the claim.
The eco-inspectors appealed to the court of appeal, which satisfied the complaint. Now the enterprise will have to obtain permission to emit pollutants into the atmosphere and eliminate a number of other requirements.
Earlier, EcoPolitic wrote, that the State Service of Geology and Subsoil of Ukraine suspended for 5 years the special permit for the extraction of gas and condensate of PJSC "Ukrgazvydobutok" on the territory of the Merefyansk community near Kharkiv. Due to mining, the water in the lake and wells of Verkhnya and Nizhnya Ozeryana villages is contaminated with oil products (11.8 times higher content) and iron (37.7 times higher).
As EcoPolitic previously reported, eco-activists have prepared comments and proposals for the Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA) report for the Volyn-Cement plant in Zdolbunov, Rivne region. The company plans to start burning industrial and chemical waste from its activities.
