2,000 walnut seedlings were planted in Mykolaiv Oblast, which volunteers evacuated from Kherson Oblast.
Trees were planted on 4 hectares in the Voznesensk Forest Farm, reports the State Environmental Inspection of the South-Western District.
In the message, it was emphasized that in the Kherson region, tree seedlings were constantly bombarded.
"Without waiting for the end of the war, Ukraine has already begun reconstruction, one of the directions of which is the restoration of the environment," the DEI press service emphasized.
The message noted that the walnut is widespread throughout Ukraine and lives for about 200-250 years. The tree is relatively undemanding to growing conditions, because it is resistant to droughts. In addition, the walnut grows quickly and contributes to the restoration of ecosystems.
Earlier, EcoPolitic wrote, that the Russian occupiers in the occupied Ukrainian territories stole not only grain, but also wood, cutting down forests. They use felled trees both to strengthen their positions and for commercial purposes.
As EcoPolitic previously reported, the specialized environmental prosecutor's office of the Zakarpattia region informed two ex-employees of the Irshava forest farm on suspicion of official negligence, which caused serious consequences. In 2020-2021, they allowed illegal mass felling of trees, which caused losses of more than 50 million hryvnias.
