This will lead to flooding of cultural and historical heritage

In the Mykolaiv region, Energoatom has launched an environmental impact assessment (EIA) procedure for 3 projects, in particular regarding the completion of construction Tashlytska HPP and raising the level of the Oleksandriv reservoir to 16.9 m.

It is also planned to build a new pumping station to feed the cooling pond with water from the Southern Bug River and splash pools, ecoactivist Inna Timchenko reports on Facebook.

There are no alternatives for the Oleksandriysk Reservoir.

Tymchenko noted that the amount of water in the Pivdennyi Bug River is already critically low (low flow), but the nuclear engineers plan to use it even more for energy needs.

It will also lead to flooding of cultural and historical heritage.

"12 out of 15 nuclear reactors in Ukraine have already reached the end of their 40-year service life, but the fund for the disposal of spent nuclear power plants in Ukraine is empty," Timchenko wrote.

Earlier, EcoPolitic wrote, that the most valuable natural habitats of the Buzky Gard National Park located in the Mykolaiv region are at risk of flooding due to the plans of Energoatom to raise the level of the Oleksandriv reservoir

As EcoPolitic previously reported, in Ukraine with certain restrictions the work of the Environmental impact assessment has been partially resumed, which will allow businesses to continue the process and the public to participate in decision-making.
