In Lviv region, 650,000 of the 1.6 million incandescent lamps that Ukrainians exchanged with Ukrposhta for LED lamps were disposed of.

Old lamps are disassembled into components and remelted to make new products, the Department of Ecology and Natural Resources of Lviv Regional State reports on Facebook.

The message emphasized that the department concluded a contract with Iskra-Trans-Logistic LLC for the transportation and disposal of 2 million lamps exchanged within the project "Saving electricity - LED lamps for Ukraine".

The technical director of the company, Roman Pryima, said that at the bulb separation line, the lamp is divided into broken glass and a base with main elements.

"The base with the main elements of the lamp is fed to the crusher for grinding and separation into glass and metal components. The separated plinth from the crusher is fed to a hydraulic press and pressed into cubes, after which it is remelted," he explained.

Priyma added that clean scrap glass is collected for remelting in glass furnaces.facebook.com/ekologialoda

It is noted that the payment for the disposal of the lamps is made from the regional environmental protection fund.

Earlier, EcoPoitic wrote, that the first stage of the program to replace incandescent lamps with LED lamps was launched in Ukraine on January 30, 2023. Since February 25, the program has spread to all settlements. The program was supposed to reduce energy consumption at times of peak load on the power system by 7-10%.

As EcoPolitic previously reported, a waste processing plant is planned to be completed in Lviv by the end of 2023, which will be able to process 250,000 tons of waste per year.
