In the Kyiv region, the construction of two waste processing plants for the cluster solution of waste problems of three communities will cost $117 million.
This is the first major investment project implemented as part of the waste management reform in Ukraine, reports Ministry of Environment on Telegram.
The report noted that the majority of the equipment at the plants will be Ukrainian-made, the rest – European. The construction period will be about 18 months.
The plants will be built for the Boryspil community and a joint one for Brovarska and Fastivska outside the settlements. Together, they will be able to process 470,000 tons of waste per year.
"The uniqueness of the factories is in the use of several processing technologies at once. In particular, the processing of organic (food) waste will be carried out with the subsequent production of biomethane, as well as deep sorting of waste with the selection of resource-valuable materials – scrap metal, glass and plastic," the message said.
Currently, a land plot of 25 hectares has already been determined on the territory of the Boryspil community, where the facilities will be located. The Fastiv community is engaged in the preparation of documents for the resolution of land issues.
The press service of the Ministry of Environment noted that they plan to conclude negotiations with several European investors by the end of November 2022. After all, the project will be implemented with the involvement of credit funds from European banks (70%) and private investments (30%).
After that, designers and contractors will be selected according to tender procedures of European investment banks.
As EcoPolitic reported before, in the Kyiv region, in Boryspilska, Brovarska and Fastivska communities, it is planned to build 2 modern waste processing plants that will use several processing technologies and produce biomethane. The head of the Ministry of Environment, Ruslan Strilets, said that with this project, Ukraine is finally starting to overcome the accumulation of garbage.
