In Holosiivsk National Park in 2022, numerous populations of the blackened and exposed sleeper were found

Ecologists from the Kyiv Ecological and Cultural Center said that forest conservation has helped preserve and restore populations of rare sleeping grass, namely meadow sleep (blackening) and broadleaf sleep (open).

These plants grow in light pine forests, and their preservation is facilitated by the absence of sanitary felling, the KECC reports on Facebook.

It is noted that in 2004, a landscape reserve of local importance "Obukhivskyi" was created on the territory of Kozyn forestry. This made it possible to preserve one of the largest populations of open and blackening sleep in the region, which usually grow in the old forest.

"Old pines gradually dry out and fall, which creates additional illumination for the dream grass, which loves light pine forests. Sanitary logging is not carried out here. That's why both populations of dream grass feel great in the reserve," ecologists said.

They added that a similar trend is observed in the protected zone of the national nature park "Holosiivskyi" (customer "Lesniki"), which is located in the neighborhood of Obukhivskyi.

Environmentalists said that "Foresters" with an area of 1,110.2 hectares was created in Kyiv in 1989. In 2007, when Holosiivskyi National Park was created, the reserve became part of it. The protected forest of 300-year-old oaks, 100-year-old pines, ash trees and maples has existed for 38 years without sanitary felling. Due to the death of old trees, areas open to the sun are formed.

"In the summer of 2022, we found here numerous populations of black and open sleepers, on which the protected regime has a positive effect," ecologists said. "The protected regime is being followed well."

As EcoPolitic reported earlier, ecologists from the Kyiv Ecological and Cultural Center accused foresters from the Berdychiv forest farm, Zhytomyr Oblast, of destroying the population of a rare red-listed plant of the spiny plantain. The plantain disappeared due to recent continuous felling.
