Environmental inspectors joined an inspection of a landfill in Borodyanka, Kyiv region, which is not equipped with the necessary waste disposal facilities and does not have an appropriate environmental impact assessment.
Despite the fact that the landfill could not be used for this purpose, garbage was dumped there for three years, the State Ecological Inspectorate of the Capital District reported on Facebook.
It is noted that environmental inspectors took soil samples to establish the fact of contamination in order to calculate the environmental damage.
The State Audit Service said that the municipal enterprise Blahoustriy-Borodyanka, which uses the landfill, did not have and still does not have all the necessary permits for solid waste disposal. This was revealed during the audit.
"This poses a threat not only to the environment but also to the health of community residents, as there are risks of infiltration into groundwater, rivers, and local wells," the report says.
It is noted that Blahoustriy-Borodianka has been removing and accepting garbage at the local landfill for almost three years, including without official tariffs for this activity. But the company paid for the services of various companies for the removal of solid waste.
"B the activities of the officials of the BSR BSR "Blagoustrii-Borodyanka" led to the illegal placement of solid household waste by other companies on communal land, which received more than UAH 3.64 million in income," the auditors added.
Earlier, EcoPolitic wrote, that in Kyiv region in 2023, eco-inspectors discovered the largest unauthorized landfill on communal lands in Yagotyn, Boryspil district. The area of the landfill reaches 11.3 hectares, and the average height of the waste piles is more than 2 meters.
As EcoPolitic previously reported, reclamation of solid household waste landfill No. 5 in the village of Pidhirtsi, Obukhiv district, is continuing in Kyiv region, which will be the first closure of a landfill according to modern technological standards in Ukraine.
