In the Kyiv region, 1.3 hectares of land are contaminated with the carcasses of dead animals, which could provoke an environmental disaster in the region.

This was reported by the Office of the Prosecutor General on Facebook.

According to the investigation, the director of one of the branches of Ukrvetssanzavod, which specializes in processing animal waste, enriched himself by disposing of animal carcasses.

He is charged with pollution and damage to land by waste harmful to life, human health and the environment, and abuse of power or office (Article 239(1), Article 364(2) of the Criminal Code of Ukraine).

Despite the limited capacity of the enterprise to accept and treat waste, the director accepted large amounts of waste, exceeding the permissible limits. Even animal by-products that were unsuitable for further processing.

Such waste was illegally dumped on the territory of the enterprise and on neighboring communal land plots. In order to disguise their actions, they burned the waste and covered it with earth.

According to the results of the survey, more than 1.3 hectares of land were contaminated with waste. Soil analysis showed a significant excess of sulfur, superphosphate, chromium, copper and zinc standards.

Now the issue of choosing a preventive measure for the suspect is being resolved, and the identification of other persons involved in this crime is ongoing.

As EcoPolitic previously reported, near Poltava, police exposed three residents of the district who were unloading the remains of domestic animal carcasses into a dug hole near the village of Nosivka.
