As soon as it became known about the crime, the UAnimals team turned to law enforcement

In the Chernivtsi region, an eighteen-year-old boy was sentenced to 5 years in prison for cruel treatment of a peacock and his death.

However, the attacker will not go to jail if he successfully serves a 2-year probationary period, the press service of the Chernivtsi Regional Prosecutor's Office reports.

The press service noted that the specialized environmental prosecutor's office of the Chernivtsi Regional Prosecutor's Office supported the accusation against Bukovinian under part 3 of Art. 299 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine.

Animal rights activists recalled that on June 3, 2022, a resident of the village of Karapchiv cruelly treated a peacock during a vacation near the Siret River, which caused the bird's death.

As soon as it became known about the crime, the UAnimals team appealed to the law enforcement officers with the demand to register a statement about the commission of a criminal offense by the boy and his accomplices and to start a pre-trial investigation of this case.

"We thank the employees of law enforcement agencies and the prosecutor's office for their work. Let's fight for a world without cruelty together!", animal rights activists wrote.

Earier, EcoPolitic wrote, that in Obukhov, Kyiv region, animal rights activists called the police to protect animals from the doghunter Oleksiy Svyatogor. He promised to destroy homeless dogs that run after traffic and bark at passers-by in the discussion of the Facebook community "Overheard".

As EcoPolitic previously reported, November 8, 2021 in Ukraine the animal protection law entered into force No. 2351. The document prohibits extermination for the purpose of regulating the number of homeless animals, beating, killing, poisoning or maiming homeless and domestic animals.
