The initiative for coal regions with transition economies in the Western Balkans and Ukraine will hold a meeting in Brussels on the topic of a fair transition to clean energy.

At a time when energy security and climate change play a critical role in politics, it is imperative that the energy transition leaves no one behind.
The same Initiative for coal regions with economies in transition in the Western Balkans and Ukraine (the Initiative) invites all interested parties to join the annual meeting.
The event will bring together representatives of state authorities, international organizations, the energy sector and civil society for an open dialogue. It will provide stakeholders with a platform for direct exchange of information on the current status, challenges and pathways to a just transition to clean energy in Bosnia and Herzegovina, Kosovo*, Montenegro, North Macedonia, Serbia and Ukraine.
Agenda
The event will take place in Brussels on November 22-23 . Interpretation and live streaming will be available. The event will cover a number of topics, including:
- the connection between the just transition to ecologically clean sources of energy and the energy crisis;
- successful practices of engaging stakeholders;
- possibilities of financing the transition to ecologically clean sources of energy;
- development of human capital in coal regions;
- best practices in land and asset repurposing and environmental restoration.

About the Initiative
Initiative for coal regions with economies in transition in the Western Balkans and Ukraine aims to help countries and regions move away from coal to a carbon-neutral economy, while ensuring that the transition is fair.
It is headed by the European Commission and six international partners: World Bank, Secretariat of Energy community , European Bank reconstruction and development (EBRD), European investment bank (EIB), Polish National Fund for Environmental Protection and Water Resources Management (NFOSiGW) and the College of Europe in Natolin.
