In addition to fish, there were a lot of crabs on the sand

Local residents and tourists who have been resting for days in the recreational zones of Katranka and Roseyka, which is on the territory of the Tuzly Estuaries National Natural Park, witnessed a natural phenomenon, thanks to which many bulls, hamsa, atherina and crabs appeared on sandy beaches.

This was announced by scientist Ivan Rusev on the page of the Tuzly Estuaries National Natural Park on Facebook.

The Black Sea threw thousands of crabs and fish onto the Tuzly estuaries. Ivan Rusev explained in detail how this happened: in recent days, a powerful north wind drove sea water from the shores, which pulled water from estuaries through the strait. Their level decreased by 15-20 cm. Meanwhile, to the shore from the depths of the sea pulled cold water, hydrogen sulfide and a lot of crabs.

"Despite the fact that the photo was taken on the second day after the release, the number of crabs washed ashore is amazing. On average, 3 crabs per linear meter. Among them are the marble crab, stone crab and fin crabs. There are fewer marble ones – only about 5%, and few stone ones, the rest are fins," the scientist said.

According to vacationers, on the first day there were also a lot of gobies, hamsa and atherina – people collected them in buckets. Birds also feasted on fish. But the next day, not a single fish was found.

"Such natural phenomena appear periodically and mostly in summer. But they are not threatening to the populations of hydrobionts. They are able to recover quickly," Ivan Rusev reassured.

Before EcoPolitic told that scientists discovered a rare gray whale that became extinct in the Atlantic Ocean 200 years ago.
