The solid waste landfill near the "Kryvorizka" mine is to be reclaimed with air and water protection measures, as well as landscaping and greening. The project requires 550 million UAH, more than 90% of which will come from the state budget.
This was reported on the website of "Pershyi Kryvorizkyi", citing project data on the DREAM platform.
A tender for the development of design and estimate documentation has already been published in the Prozorro system. A total of 6.6 million UAH is planned to be allocated for preparing the project. The remaining 543.4 million UAH will be spent on carrying out the designed works.
This is the same landfill where a large-scale fire broke out on the night of 20–21 June. For several days, residents of Kryvyi Rih smelled an unbearable odour, and local air pollution levels exceeded the norm by more than two times.
Project details
The landfill covers an area of 23.8 hectares. As part of the project, its environmental and technical condition will be assessed. It is also planned to determine its service life and the overall feasibility of further operation.
The reclamation itself will have two stages:
- technical reclamation with the creation of the necessary engineering infrastructure;
- biological reclamation, landscaping and greening of the landfill area.
The planned works include re-profiling the surface and making the relief more stable, as well as installing a reclamation screen made of several layers of geosynthetic materials.
Collection systems are planned for surface water and leachate: the former will be diverted from the site, while the latter will be treated. A degassing system will also be installed at the landfill.
As part of the biological reclamation measures, the landfill is planned to be sown with grasses and partially greened.
After operation ends, long-term control will be established over the landfill, and an environmental monitoring system will be set up.
Five years have been allocated for the project: two for design and three for the actual works.
As a reminder, over 600 million UAH will be spent on clearing the Inhulets River near Kryvyi Rih.
In Oleksandriia, a landfill burned for almost a week. The prosecutor's office opened criminal proceedings.
In one of the villages of Chernivtsi Oblast, instead of solving the problems with the landfill, the local authorities simply set fires at the site. The State Environmental Inspectorate suspects the village council of these illegal actions.
