Priority is given to projects that can be implemented relatively quickly

In Ukraine, 58 wind power plant (WPP) projects with a total capacity of more than 7 GW are at various stages of development. While the war is going on, only 4-5 GW of them can be actually realized, as about 3 GW is the design capacity of wind power plants located in the temporarily occupied territories.

This is reported by the publication Energobusiness.

Experts say that 3 new WPPs have been built in Ukraine since the beginning of the full-scale war:

  • Tiligulskaya wind farm of DTEK holding with a capacity of 114 MW;
  • Dniester wind farm of the British company Elementum Energy with a capacity of 60 MW;
  • Skole wind farm of the Ukrainian company "Eco-Optima" with a capacity of 54.6 MW.

Their total capacity is less than 230 MW.

The advantages of wind farms compared to other energy sources are the relative speed of construction (3 years from the start of research to commissioning) and higher resistance to military risks.

A number of wind farm construction projects are at the very beginning and require a long period of time for completion. Experts say that the priority now is for those projects that can be implemented relatively quickly – within 2025-2026.

Experts claim that almost the entire territory of Ukraine is suitable for the development of wind power generation. In particular, the Zhytomyr, Vinnitsa, Volyn, Rivne and Lviv regions are promising, where the average wind speed at an altitude of 100 m can reach from 6.5 to 7.0 m/s (the minimum for the most efficient electricity generation). In the Kherson and Odessa regions, the average speed is even higher – 8.0-8.2 m/s.

Previously, EcoPolitic reported that a new workshop for the production of wind turbines was launched in Transcarpathia.

We also told you that local deputies supported the scandalous construction of wind turbines in the Runa mountain valley.
