Leaders of the Parliamentary Environmental Committee discussed with representatives of international organizations the coordination of participants in Ukraine's green recovery in creating an international Green Recovery Platform.
International partners supported Ukraine's desire to start the recovery process "today" without waiting for the end of the war, the Environmental Committee's website says.
The working meeting was attended by:
- Chairman of the Committee on Environmental Policy and Nature Management Oleg Bondarenko;
- Olena Kryvoruchkina, deputy head of the eco-committee;
- representative of the United Nations Environment Program (UNEP) Pierre Carlo Sanday;
- Rosaria Puglisi, representative of the OECD Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development;
- representative of the Federal Ministry of Ecology, Nature Conservation, Nuclear Safety and Consumer Protection of the Federal Republic of Germany Jürgen Keinhorst.
It is noted that for effective recovery, an international Green Recovery Platform will be created for interaction and communication of all interested parties. International partners highly appreciated the steps already taken regarding green reconstruction.
According to Krivyruchkina, the platform will involve:
- Ukrainian governmental and parliamentary structures;
- international partners;
- domestic and foreign representatives of the private sector, in particular investors and representatives of the public.
Bondarenko explained that the main tasks of such a platform will be:
- communication and coordination of activities;
- development of the necessary legal framework;
- implementation of European principles of green recovery in the recovery of Ukraine.
He added that more detailed principles and conditions of the Green Recovery Platform will be discussed at the committee hearings on green recovery in March 2024.
As EcoPolitic previously reported, in December, a four-day Ukraine Green Recovery Conference ended in Vilnius, Lithuania, during which the current environmental damage from the war, as well as strategies and concrete solutions for green recovery were discussed.
