Flooding the Nice Park would destroy hundreds of rare species of animals and plants and a cultural heritage site

Energoatom will not be able to flood a part of the national nature park "Buzky Gard" in the Mykolaiv region.

Thanks to the comments of ecoactivists to the environmental impact assessment report, the Ministry of Environmental Protection and Natural Resources of Ukraine rejected the project for the completion of the Tashlyts hydro-storage power plant, reports the public organization "Ekodiya" on Facebook.

Eco-activists explained that the power plant was supposed to accumulate excess energy from the neighboring South Ukrainian NPP. However, the construction could result in flooding of the coastal zone of the national park.

They emphasized that this would destroy hundreds of rare species of animals and plants, including red-listed species. A monument of cultural heritage of national importance, namely the center of the Bugogard palanquin of the Lower Zaporizhzhya Army of the 18th century, could also be damaged.

"The plant that was supposed to produce turbines (the main working elements of the station) belongs to the Russian billionaire Oleksiy Mordashov, but this does not stop Energoatom from cooperating," the authors noted.

Earlier, EcoPolitic wrtoe, that in the Mykolaiv Oblast, the most valuable natural habitats of the Buzkyi Gard National Park are under threat of flooding due to the plans of the Energoatom NPP to raise the level of the Oleksandriv reservoir to 20.7 meters. Flooding of Gard Island could completely wipe out the world's populations of carnation and meringue, which are found virtually only in the inundation zone

As EcoPolitic previously reported, NAEC "Energoatom" published an environmental impact assessment report, which substantiates the feasibility and safety of raising the level of the Oleksandriv reservoir in the Mykolayiv region to 16.9 meters.
