Earlier, the Ministry of Environment called on the company to abandon its intentions

NAEC Energoatom published an environmental impact assessment (EIA) report, which substantiates the feasibility and safety of raising the level of the Oleksandriv reservoir in the Mykolaiv region to 16.9 meters.

This will lead to the flooding of the territory of the Buzkiy Gard National Nature Park and may completely destroy the world populations of lilac carnation and lilac meringue, reports the public organization "Ukrainian Nature Conservation Group" on Facebook.

It is noted that these plants are actually found only in the flood zone.

The message emphasized that comments on the report can be sent until March 6, but citizens must receive the report itself officially.

The authors said that raising the water level to 16.9 m is only the beginning, as the planned activity consists in completing the completion of the Tashlytsky HPP and raising the level by a few more meters.

"Raising the level of the reservoir will mean the flooding of Gard Island, a significant part of the most valuable natural habitats of the Buzy Gard National Park," they explained.

Eco-activists emphasized that in the previous report, Energoatom indicated that the company plans to install Russian-made turbines, which were produced by a plant on the international sanctions list.

They added that in the negative conclusion of the EIA, which was received in 2022, the Ministry of Environmental Protection and Natural Resources urged the company to abandon its intentions.

As EcoPolitic reported before, the most valuable natural habitats of the national park in the Mykolayiv region "Buzy Gard" was under threat of flooding, due to the plans of NAEC "Energoatom" to raise the level of the Oleksandriv reservoir to 20.7 meters.
