There is still a lot of work to do to reduce waste

In Lviv, the NGO Zero Waste Lviv continues to work during the war to reduce the amount of disposable plastic, minimize waste, promote reusable items, sorting, composting, recycling, etc.

Business, volunteers, city authorities, private entities and foreign partners are actively involved in the initiative, Zero Waste Lviv said in a press release.

Activists shared their achievements in the fight against waste in wartime.

Reduction of disposable plastic

Zero Vaste Lviv purchased and provided free of charge to restaurateurs who feed volunteers, migrants, the Armed Forces and the Terrorist Defense multiple gastro containers with vacuum lids (food warmers).

This has significantly reduced the cost of disposable utensils in which food was previously delivered and avoid the accumulation of waste, reduce the amount of garbage and the number of flights for this removal.

Environmental activists have estimated that one food warrior will pay for itself in 12 days. With the help of international partners, they provided 8 institutions with 114 units.

They also initiated the use of reusable utensils at the train station, where a volunteer kitchen operates and thousands of evacuees eat daily. Together with partners, they purchased 142 reusable pots for drinks, 304 pots with lids for soups, 122 containers for food with them and 500 metal spoons.

Also, together with the Italian partners from Eco Dalle Città, we managed to install a professional dishwasher for washing these dishes.

Also, 200 reusable cups that were not used in circulation for the Zero Cup mortgage packaging service were handed over to the volunteer headquarters.

"This allowed us not to spend money on disposable pots in these locations and at the same time to promote the use of reusable items," - explained in Zero Vaste Lviv.

Also activists initiated among Lviv residents the collection and transfer of reusable utensils for the needs of the center for temporarily displaced persons, which is on the "Arena Lviv" and the collection of thermal pots and thermoses that could be taken with them, going on the road evacuees.
