The smelting plant of the ABS Sisak plant will be modernized using Digimelter technology

Italian metallurgical company Acciaierie Bertoli Safau (ABS), a division of equipment manufacturer Danieli, and her and Croatian subsidiary ABS Sisak are investing €200 million in competitive and environmentally friendly steel production at a plant in Croatia.

This was reported by SteelTimes International.

Investments will go to projects to modernize the steel smelting process and build a new rolling mill in ABS Sisak.

The project involves the creation of a fully digital enterprise that will increase energy efficiency and reduce carbon emissions.

These investments will also increase Sisak's annual production capacity to approximately 550,000 tons and enable the plant to offer finished products in local and European markets.

According to the company, the process of capacity modernization began two years ago with the introduction of Q-One software, which was developed and tested at the same plant.

The existing Sisak ABS smelter will be upgraded with Digimelter technology to ensure the direct use of renewable energy sources. The plant will be powered by solar energy, thanks to which ABS will make steel production more sustainable and ensure its compliance with climate obligations.

I was amazed to see green and digital steel production in one place, where all manual work is replaced by automated activities in which staff only participate as process controllers. the city ", - the Minister of Croatia Davor Filipovic emphasized.

It should be added that Metinvest Group and Danieli have signed a memorandum of understanding on the development and implementation of technologies for decarbonization of steel production. In the framework of cooperation, the parties will study the possibilities of introducing new technologies to reduce the carbon footprint of Ukrainian and EU companies.

Before EcoPolitics reported that the group of mining and metallurgical companies "Metinvest" and the German company SMS group with its subsidiary Paul Wurth signed memorandum of understanding on reducing CO2 emissions during the production of cast iron and steel.
