The Ministry of Environmental Protection and Natural Resources of Ukraine instructed the State Environmental Inspectorate (SEI) of the Dnipro District to conduct an unscheduled measure of state supervision (control) regarding the compliance of PRJSC Dnipro Steel Plant (DMZ) with the conditions of the permit for emissions of pollutants into the atmosphere.

The department informed about this in Telegram.

The Ministry of Environment said that they receive numerous complaints from the residents of Dnipro regarding the deterioration of the atmospheric air due to the production activities of PRJSC DMZ (coke-chemical production).

It should be noted that the SEI of the Dnipro District reported on August 8 about the large number of appeals from Dnipro residents regarding atypical emissions. Eco-inspectors noted that they have already sent a request to DMZ regarding accidents and providing explanations regarding the increase in emissions. They also sent materials to the SEI to obtain permission to conduct an unscheduled inspection.

And so, more than a week later, the ministry gave permission for it to be held.

The Ministry of Environment reported that eco-inspectors will also check the fulfillment of the conditions of the preliminary order of the SEI regarding the elimination of violations of the conditions of the permit for the emission of pollutants into the atmospheric air.

Earlier, EcoPolitic wrote, that the residents of Dnipro have been suffering from DMZ emissions for many years. Yes, in November 2021 due to strong emissions from the plant the air was so polluted that the windows of the townspeople were covered with black sediment.
