At the same time, the company has replaced some of its vehicles with electric cars

A bakery in the Zaporizhzhia region has undergone a large-scale energy modernisation. Its own solar power station (SPS), together with energy storage systems, will enable it to replace around 970 MWh of electricity required for its production processes each year. The company was supported in carrying out the work by the Ukraine Decarbonisation Fund.

This was reported by the State Agency for Energy Efficiency and Energy Saving of Ukraine on Facebook.

Energy changes in figures

The bakery has installed a solar power plant for its own use. The plant’s capacity exceeds 900 kW.

At the same time, the company has installed an energy storage system. This helps to store energy generated during peak hours for use during less sunny periods of the day. The system’s capacity is over 1,600 kWh.

In addition, the bakery’s vehicle fleet has replaced several vehicles with internal combustion engines with electric vehicles.

Together, these measures have a significant environmental impact — reducing CO₂ emissions by over 400 tonnes each year.

According to Hanna Zamazeyeva, Head of the State Agency for Energy Efficiency, energy independence, cost savings and the ability to avoid interrupting complex technological processes are also important for the company. For example, the kneading, fermentation and baking of bread cannot be put on hold.

According to preliminary calculations, the enterprise will be able to draw 970 MWh less electricity from the general grid annually. This volume covers more than 50% of the bakery’s consumption.

Further plans for the facility include increasing cogeneration capacity, since, in addition to electricity, the plant consumes a lot of gas. It is used to operate tunnel ovens and the boiler house.

EcoPolitic reported that in May the Decarbonization Fund allocated UAH 207.4 million for Ukrainian businesses. The funds are directed towards building four SPPs and installing a startup cogeneration unit.

Later it became known that the Fund funded the installation of 14 SPPs with energy storage systems for public institutions.
