The work is being carried out within the framework of the joint project of the Ministry of Health of Ukraine and the World Bank "Strengthening the Health Care System and Saving Life" (HEAL Ukraine)

The procedure for preparing hospitals for the installation of photovoltaic power plants is underway in 130 primary healthcare facilities in different regions of Ukraine.

This was reported by the Ministry of Health of Ukraine.

Each selected primary healthcare facility will be equipped with kits containing solar panels, inverters and batteries. According to the algorithm, the hospital will be powered by electricity generated by photovoltaic panels. The excess energy generated will be accumulated in batteries and used when the generation from photovoltaic panels is insufficient.

The procedure for inspecting the facilities and collecting baseline information on the load-bearing capacity of the roofs of medical facilities and the possibility of installing photovoltaic panels in hospitals is currently being finalized.

Installation of SPP is planned to be completed within 5 months.

Solar panels for health care facilities will be installed in Volyn, Rivne, Zhytomyr, Vinnytsia, Zakarpattia, Ivano-Frankivsk, Ternopil, Chernivtsi, Kyiv, Chernihiv, Cherkasy, Sumy, Kirovohrad, Poltava, Kharkiv, Dnipropetrovsk, Zaporizhia, Mykolaiv and Odesa regions .

The Ministry of Health is confident that the installation of SES will allow medical institutions to significantly save on electricity expenses and direct these funds to other needs of medical institutions.

Ministry officials also reminded that in accordance with the amendments to the Law of Ukraine on the restoration and green transformation of the energy system of Ukraine, medical institutions will be able to implement the mechanism of active electricity consumers. That is, during the hours when the institution's solar panels will produce more electricity than it will consume, the hospital can sell its surplus to the network.

In May, EcoPolitic wrote about plans of the state in 2023-2024, to equip 270 Ukrainian medical facilities with solar power plants. And in March, we reported that in Ternopil Oblast SES helped Berezhansk hospital to save UAH 75,000 on electricity bills.
