Solar stations will have a capacity of 10 to 50 kW

The central executive authorities of Ukraine are preparing to install approximately 200 rooftop solar power plants (SPPs) by the end of 2025. The project is being implemented with the support of the Joint Stock Company "Decarbonization Fund of Ukraine".

This was announced by Olena Lenska, Head of the Alternative Energy Department of the State Agency on Energy Efficiency and Energy Saving of Ukraine, Interfax-Ukraine reports.

According to the official, during the year, the agency collected applications from government agencies and compiled a list of 1550 facilities where they want to install SPPs with energy storage systems. The total capacity of all projects will be approximately 56 MW.

In particular, one of the requirements for the installation of a solar power plant from the Decarbonization Fund is the average annual consumption of more than 30 thousand kWh of energy per year. At the same time, an energy management system must be implemented at the facility, and the institution must subsequently report to the State Agency on Energy Efficiency and Energy Saving on the results of the solar plant's operation.

Representatives of the State Agency on Energy Efficiency and Energy Saving note that public authorities, state organizations and institutions that did not apply for the installation of a solar power plant in 2025 will be able to apply in 2026.

How the Decarbonization Fund of Ukraine works

The Decarbonization Fund of Ukraine, which is fully owned by the state, finances energy efficiency projects. Its goal is to provide soft loans at 5-9% per annum for up to 10 years. Another area of its work since the beginning of 2025 has been the financing of the installation of solar power plants by central authorities.

We would like to remind EcoPolitic readers that in the first quarter of 2025, the Decarbonization Fund issued almost three times fewer loans and for half the amount than in the last quarter of 2024. The total amount of loans granted is approximately UAH 270 million.
