This is 30% higher than last year

From January to May 2024, taxpayers in Rivne region paid UAH 57.7 million in environmental tax to the budget for environmental pollution.

This was reported by the Main Department of the State Tax Service in Rivne region.

Of the total amount paid, 72% – which is UAH 41.5 million – went to the state budget. This exceeds last year's figure by UAH 9.4 million. Local budgets received 27% of the environmental tax payments, or UAH 15.6 million. This amount is UAH 4.4 million more than last year.

The tax service reminded that environmental tax payers are business entities that carry out:

  • emissions of pollutants into the atmosphere by stationary sources of pollution;
  • discharges of pollutants directly into water bodies;
  • placement of waste (except placement of certain types (classes) of waste as secondary raw materials, which are placed on the own territories (objects) of business entities);
  • generation of radioactive waste (including already accumulated);
  • temporary storage of radioactive waste by their producers beyond the term established by the special conditions of the license.

In January, EcoPolitic reported that Mindovkillya has developed a draft law that will increase the tax on waste disposal 10 times.

We also reported the other day that Denmark is introducing the first tax on CO2 emissions in agriculture in Europe.
