The Ministry of Environmental Protection and Natural Resources of Ukraine has proposed to simplify the procedure for obtaining a permit for waste treatment as part of a pilot project.

This was reported by the press service of the Ministry of Environment on Facebook.

The ministry proposes to establish a simplified procedure for companies that handle waste that is not hazardous and has minimal environmental impact, such as waste carriers and collectors, as well as companies that carry out sorting, crushing, compaction, granulation, drying (naturally), shredding, and more.

This also applies to companies that use wood waste to produce heat for internal use and companies that dispose of their waste at their own landfills (at the place of waste generation).

"Simplifying the procedure for obtaining a permit for waste treatment operations will allow businesses to adapt to changes within the framework of the waste management reform launched in Ukraine. When considering the possibility of launching an experiment, we took only those categories of business entities whose activities do not pose a threat to the environment," said Yevgenia Popovych, director of the Department of Digital Transformation and Electronic Public Services of the Ministry of the Environment.

It is reported that in order to obtain a permit, you must first register on the "EkoSistema" platform and create an account in the e-waste module. After that, the user will be able to keep records and submit reports through his electronic account.

But for enterprises that bury their own waste at their own landfills, it will be necessary to submit a package of documents in accordance with the Procedure for issuing, refusing to issue, canceling a permit for waste treatment operations, approved by Resolution of the Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine dated December 19, 2023 No. 1328, however without the need to submit Annex 13.

As EcoPolitic previously reported, the hazardous waste management crisis is gaining momentum in Ukraine, because due to the Ministry of Environment not issuing licenses, only 3 companies in all of Ukraine can conduct such activities.
