About 300 residents of the community signed an appeal to preserve the green zone

In Rivne, environmental activists called on city council members not to vote for the construction of a bus stop on the site of the park on Danylo Halytskoho Street.

The vote on the transfer of the green area to Rivnelectroautotrans is scheduled for Thursday, March 14, and the city residents plan to hold a campaign to preserve trees near the city council session hall, the Ecoclub NGO reports on Facebook.

According to eco-activists, this decision contradicts the Sustainable Energy and Climate Action Plan and the Blue-Green Corridors Concept.

It is noted that about 300 community members signed an appeal to preserve the green zone. In addition, environmental activists sent letters to the heads of all factions of the Rivne City Council asking them to preserve the park. Representatives of two of the seven factions (Holos and European Solidarity) said they would not support the decision.

"Currently, the trees near RivneElectroAutotrans, as a sanitary protection zone, protect residents of nearby houses from air pollution and noise from public transport," they said in a statement.

Environmental activists believe that the destruction of trees threatens the comfort of citizens and will also facilitate similar decisions in the future.

As EcoPolitic previously reported, in February, about 80 residents of Rivne came out to protest against the city council's plans to turn part of the park into a parking lot for 20 new diesel minibuses. To do this, they plan to remove 20 trees.
