SBU cyber specialists detained an agent of the Russian FSB intelligence service who collected and transmitted the coordinates of toxic substance storage sites, including warehouses and pesticide storage facilities.
The occupiers planned to launch missile strikes on these facilities and carry out a kamikaze drone attack to provoke an environmental disaster, the SBU reported on Telegram.
The message explained that in this way the Russians hoped to undermine the internal situation.
According to the investigation, the suspect was a student of Odesa University. In the fall of 2023, he was remotely contacted by an FSB officer, who has already been identified. The student was offered to secretly cooperate in favor of Russia and receive a "salary" from the special service.
The agent also reconnoitered possible locations and routes of movement of the Defense Forces.
"To collect information, the suspect started working as a taxi driver and, under the guise of transporting passengers, recorded the locations of "required" objects," the report said.
It is noted that SBU employees conducted a multi-stage special operation and step-by-step documented the criminal actions of the FSB agent and detained him during the execution of a hostile mission. During the search, all the gadgets he used in intelligence and subversive activities against Ukraine were seized from him.
The message added that the agent was informed of suspicion under part 2 of Article 111 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine (treason committed under martial law). He faces life imprisonment. The investigation is ongoing.
Earlier, EcoPolitic wrote, that on the night of June 6, the occupiers blow up the dam of the Kakhovsky Reservoir, which caused a large-scale ecological disaster. As early as the beginning of 2023, Ukrainian leaders warned of a possible terrorist attack by the Russians, but international partners failed to prevent the disaster.
As EcoPolitic previously reported, in June in the occupied Crimea in Armyansk, the Russians mined the Crimean Titan chemical plant and are preparing to evacuate representatives of the occupation administration and the local population.
