Ukrainians have been urged to celebrate Christmas and New Year according to the Zero waste rules in order not to harm the environment.
Experts from the Waste Management Center shared their tips on Facebook.
Zero waste rules:
- REFUSE – say "no";
The message advised to avoid rash purchases and to give up unnecessary things. Implementation of this item will help not only to avoid the accumulation of unnecessary things, but also to learn how to save money.
- REDUCE – consumption reduction;
It is noted that it is impossible to give up some things, but you can reduce the use. For example, you can reduce the number of meat dishes on the table, or reduce the time of using garlands to save electricity.
- REUSE – reuse;
"Use what you already have: decorations, a toy, a Christmas tree, maybe you already have some food in the freezer," the message urged.
- RECYCLE – sorting and recycling;
The City of Central Ukraine urged to sort garbage during the holidays, or to start sorting. In addition, sorting can become a kind of entertainment during the celebration.
- ROT – composting of organic waste.
"If you have the opportunity to compost organic waste, it will also help to reduce the amount of garbage going to the landfill during the holidays," the message emphasized.
